Indian Riverkeeper Receives Donation

On Sunday March 6, 2016, Marty Baum, the Indian Riverkeeper received a generous donation ($1,220.00) from the Treasure Coast Community Singers. He accepted the gift in person from Dr. Doug Jewett, TCCS Musical Director, during intermission at a performance by the choral group at the North Stuart Baptist Church. A similar gift was given to the TCCS scholarship fund which assists students pursuing musical education at a college or university.

The proceeds for the gifts came from the silent auction of a painting by Juan T. Vasquez Martin entitled “The Blue and the Gray.” Vasquez Martin is a renowned artist from Cuba. He painted the canvas in person as the choral group and orchestra did two performances of “Chronicles of Blue and Gray” in North Stuart last May. The musical composition by John Purifoy incorporates folk songs, spirituals, poetry and historical speeches from the Civil War era. The TCCS and orchestra played an encore performance at St. Bernadette’s Church in St Lucie West in July in honor of Independence Day. Treasure Coast Community Singers will be singing three songs from this work in their next concert, May 20, 21 and 22. See www.tccsingers.org for more details.
